Utah’s birth rate, is usually #1 in the entire country & Utah families are much bigger than what you’ll find in most areas of the country. There are Polygamist in Utah, but Utahn’s do NOT practice polygamy. So, if you’ve heard that Utahn’s or Mormon’s practice polygamy they are NOT true. While we’re on the subject of Mormon’s, I should tell you that they prefer to go by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. About 50% of the state belong to the LDS faith & this factors in quite a bit on what it’s like to live here in Utah. One of the biggest complaints is that there doesn’t seem to be much separation of church & state. Remember the state is 50% LDS so naturally, a lot of laws are going to bend that way. Utah is a conservative place to live. If you’re a liberal, this place might drive you crazy. There’s not a lot of people who are going to agree with you.
What about the weather? Because Utah is a desert mountain region, we get extreme weather. Utah’s weather is bipolar. Sometimes we’ll have a wonderful spring day in the middle of winter & a few years ago, summer was so slow to come that people were still skiing on the 4th of July. Often the bipolar weather happens in a single day. Even in the middle of summer, you need to pack a jacket in case the weather turns. We get extreme temperatures in Utah. In the winter, temps can drop below freezing & stay there for weeks on end. The snow from a single snowstorm can stay on the ground for weeks. But in the summer temps will hit 100 degrees. So, when you move to Utah you need to pack like you’re moving to Montana & Southern California. Utah has the Best Snow on Earth. Many who participate in the winter Olympics choose to train in Utah. The dry air makes our snow soft & powdery and if you like the snow, that’s a good thing.
Utah's roads are always under construction. If you combine road construction with the fact that Utahn’s are considered some of the worst drivers in the country, it’s not always fun to drive here. We are one of the fastest growing states in the US which means, new roads need to be made and old roads need to be widened. We’ve already talked about the organic growth rate, you know, all these huge families, but Utah also has one of the best job markets in the country. The tech industry is BOOMING in Utah. They’re calling the area around Salt Lake City Silicon Slopes due to the fact that a HUGE number of large & small tech companies are being drawn to the state. But tech isn’t the only industry providing the growth, we’ve got banking, mining & etc. Utah is growing & changing at an unbelievable rate.
In most states, Sunday is just another Saturday, but not in Utah. Many stores & restaurants in Utah are closed on Sunday. Utah has tough liquor laws. The percentage of alcohol in drinks is lower in Utah than other parts of the country. In Utah, the DUI blood alcohol limit is the lowest in the country.
In Utah we LOVE Fry Sauce. When you come to Utah be sure to try it.
Here's a quick history of the Mormons or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The LDS church was started in 1830 by modern-day prophet named Joseph Smith who was directed by God to some golden plates that were buried in a hillside. The plates were a record of a people who lived in Americas dating back before the birth of Jesus. Joseph translated the Book of Mormon from the plates. Joseph’s was murdered by a mob while in a jail. In 1846, prophet Brigham Young guided the members of the LDS faith west. The Mormon pioneers settled Utah in what is known today as Salt Lake City. The LDS church is still lead by a living Prophet,, someone who speaks directly with & receives revelation from God. When you come to Utah you'll see churches & Temples everywhere.
